Living in a town with more music venues per capita than any other United States city has an advantage, in that there is always somewhere to go where an awesome new band is playing in Austin, my home.
As a twenty-something single male Austin-ite, I spend a lot of my free time looking into new bands. I especially like new groups that are just coming up or have been around but only started being noticed.

Whitmore’s sophomore release, “There I Go Again”, is a little bit country and a lot of Americana – with pop hooks.
Dirty River Boys
Album: Science of Flight (2012)
The quartet plays harmonicas, guitars, mandolins, an upright bass to create gritty roots-style music that they call, “outlaw folk.”
Album: Smart Ass Black Boy (2013)
Fat Tony is a Nigerian-American rapper, Anthony Obi. Fat Tony is an intense, Adderall-fueled performer who has won three consecutive Best Underground Hip-Hop awards from the local press. His latest features Kool A.D. and Despot.
Fox and the Bird
Album: Darkest Hours (2014)
This folk-pop team produces rich harmonies that include banjos, accordions, fiddles, and ukuleles. It reminds us of folk songs played on front porches and in living rooms long ago.
